Monthly retainer

Fractional Technology Leadership: Fractional CIO and part-time IT director

Someone who owns your technology, your IT company or team, and the risk, on a monthly retainer. The role most growing businesses never got around to filling.

Fractional means part time. You get technology and security leadership for a set part of each month, without hiring a full-time executive.

Most growing businesses have someone who keeps the technology running. Very few have someone who owns it. That person decides what the IT company works on, tells leadership what the money buys, keeps the insurance answers true, and makes the call when something breaks.

That’s the job. We join the leadership meeting when technology is on the agenda. We set priorities for your IT company or team, check the work, and explain it in both directions. Leadership gets straight answers. The IT people get clear direction and someone who has their back.

What you get

  • One working session and a one-page update for the owner each month
  • A technology plan and budget your leadership team understands
  • Priorities for your IT company or team, and someone who checks the work
  • Cyber insurance answers and customer security questionnaires kept current
  • Leads the decisions when something goes wrong, alongside the incident response firm you chose with us in month one
  • A named security officer when an insurer, customer, or regulator asks for one

Questions

Is this the same as a fractional CIO or a virtual CISO?

It covers both. Most growing businesses don't need two part-time executives. They need one person who owns technology and its risk. When an insurer, customer, or regulator needs a named security officer, the title on the letter matches what they ask for.

Do you replace our IT company or our IT person?

Not by default. Most of the time the IT company or the team does better once someone sets the direction. When they don't, we tell you plainly and handle the change.

How fast do you respond?

Messages get an answer the same business day. During an incident, we join the same business day, and within two hours outside 7:30 to 17:00 on weekdays. Your incident response firm starts hands-on work right away under its own contract, so nobody waits on us to start the response.

How many hours is it?

We agree on a monthly scope, not a timesheet. If the work grows past the retainer, we tell you and change the scope in writing.
